View over Rosario Town from Attic

Climbing Holiday Accommodation in Spain

Our base in Spain is a recently reformed, comfortable house in Villanueva del Rosario. This pretty mountain town lies in the hills 35 km north of Malaga and has easy access to a vast range of adventurous activities.

The house has all modern amenities and has several accommodation options that can cater for groups of 2 - 6 people. It is a perfect base for a climbing holiday. The area around Villanueva del Rosario itself has a lot of climbing with many routes of all grades from 3 to 9b+, with some crags being within walking distance and most of them are only a 5 min drive.

Attic - BedsitThe cave containing one of the world's hardest routes Chilam Balam 9b+ is easily seen from the house and can be reached by a 15 minute walk. Excellent crags such as Villanueva de Cauche, Archidona, Loja and El Torcal de Antequera are only 15 -20 minutes drive.

All these areas are in the new Rockfax El Chorro guide, although the guide has only done a half-hearted job of documenting these crags.

The popular area of El Chorro and Turon are about 40 km away. There is also some excellent bouldering, hiking and mountain biking in this area.

For those who would like to base themselves at El Chorro we can arrange accommodation, guiding and instruction on-site. We are associated with The Olive Branch which provides a wide range of accommodation from the use of a whole whole house to private rooms or camping with the use of cooking facilities.

Beaches are only 40 minutes away and, if you fancy a bit of skiing, the Sierra Nevada is only 1.5 hours away. The hills behind the village are also ideal for hiking and mountain biking with a myriad of trails that cater for all levels of ability.

There are travel directions to the house from Malaga and Granada airports on the Travel pages in the table at the bottom of the page.

In terms of accommodation there are several self catering options:

This option sleeps 6 and includes all of the above facilities plus the main lounge, the main kitchen and an additional bathroom.

The lounge is equipped with a sofa bed which becomes a double bed when unfolded.

Sacks and climbing gear can be stored in the garage or lobby, if you don’t fancy taking them upstairs. It is safe and there is plenty of room there.

We are in the process of building a training wall in the garage for those who arrive back from the crags with enough energy and skin.
